With Tabak, the popular Hyndland Road corner shop and off-sales, about to pull the shutters down for the final time, we thought you'd enjoy a glimpse of the site when its next door neighbour was still the ornate Hyndland Station, which was demolished in the late 1960s.
That's the Tabak premises closest to the station, Back then, it was, appropriately enough, a stationer's shop.
Tabak's owner Marco Stevenson has decided to call it a day rather than try to compete with a new Sainsbury's Local, which is due to open on nearby Novar Drive. The good news for hungry locals is that he plans to continue running his next door fast food business, Pizza Magic, and has other, so far secret, plans for the Tabak premises.
Speaking to local news site, http://glasgowwestend.today/, Marco said: "I’ve helped old ladies with their shopping, I’ve opened up especially on many occasion for customers wanting milk or bread – and generally been here as the eyes and ears of the community.
“I’m proud of what this store has achieved for the local area – and I can count many of my customers as friends.
“I’ve seen young customers grow up – and I’ve attended some funerals too.”
Good luck, Marco!.
